| I purchased these speakers as a previous customer return at a great price. They were easy to set-up, even for me, a 54 year old widow. I bought them to replace ancient tall standing speakers and think they are great. Currently I am using them in a moderately large room, they create a BIG sound. I don't notice the tinny sound that others have complained about. It is my intent to move them to my screen porch when I install a surround sound system, for which my house was pre-wired. This, and all my previous experiences with Bose Speakers (computer speakers are also owned by me) has been great! On sale, 20 down to 13. Nice size, quality case. Came with a travel bag. The store had another brand identical for 30.00. I like the style, i would pay 50 or 60 for speakers this nice that had some decent drivers. They work for my purpose, but sure wish they had the quality behind them that made you want to hook them up. I am thinking about after my use is done, take them apart. Find some decent headphones and rob the drivers. Install them. Then add a decent headphone amp. Will cost 60 to 80 to do it. But with this nice case I think it is a project worth doing. | For the negatives, these speakers are overpriced for their meager performance. I can hear them OK from my deck, but go another 30 feet to my kids' playset and you get very little. The sound is tinny, which is comparable to most Bose products outside of their bookshelf speakers. If you listen to Pop, you'll probably be OK with these. But jazz, classical, or even classic rock will all show the weakness of these speakers. If you want better sound and a cheaper price, check out Paradigm or TIC Corp. Move up in the price range and you'll find B&W (I own a pair of the 604s in my movie room) and Definitive Technology, to name a few. Last point is to make sure you meet the manufacturer specs on placement. Some speakers need protection from the worst weather conditions, like mounting under eaves. My set-up requires direct exposure. JBL Northridge N26AW II Weather-Resistant Bookshelf Speakers, Pair (Off-White)by JBL (N26AWII)  customer review: Nice speakers. Great sound. No, the speakers are not going to rock your socks off. However, they do their job very well. Wonderful speakers for a deck or patio. They are quality made. One thing to consider is that these speakers are larger than you might think. They will need a sturdy mounting bracket to stay secure. They were on sale for 40 dollars at sears on black friday. Last week I went to circuit city and purchased a reciever unit for 60 dollars. This was a discontiued floor model shearwood 500watt unit. I installed the speakers on my garage facing my pool and patio. The sound is amazing. There is no distortion even at high volume levels. I can here the sound thoughout the whole backyard. I may purchase some fake rock speakers to complete the surround sound experience but I am happy with these. The only thing that is a bummer is the ackward way that you have to install the bracket and speaker wire onto the speaker before mounting.
