| These have a great range good clarity and although small in size are easy to use for my 4 & 6 year olds. And for added fun my husbands radios that we take on camping trips can be set to the same channels now its a 4 way conversation. I recommend these to any parent looking for a walkie talkie type toy. They are basically a toy, but the people who complain that they don't work on CB radios and the like, simply didn't read the Description which states "with boom microphone will make conversing on your Midland family radio easier and more convenient." These are ONLY for FRS Radios from Midland, but may work on other FRS radios as long as they have the same plug arrangement. BTW, FRS stands for Family Radio Service as in Motorola TalkAbouts and the like, NOT CBs. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The license is a piece of paper so the FCC may track who is using GMRS frequencies, nothing more. They used to do the same for CB users in the 70's. They do not track FRS freqs because of the low output power of FRS radios. Range is affected by output power of the radio but mostly by obstacles between you and the other radio. Trees, walls, buildings, hills, etc. reduce the range considerably. A true test of range is on open water or unobstructed Line-Of-Sight from one hilltop to another. (Not everyone has a boat) Buy three different sets from different brands and try them near a lake to test, return the ones that are not to your liking.

customer review: my fiance hunts and was sick of having to use someone else's radio, so he wanted a set of his own. i searched around for a reasonably priced set and Amazon had the best deal. These radios are easy to use and you get a nice range so you don't have to be on top of each other to communicate. He hasn't tested it out to see if it really works well in the 16 mile radius, max he's gone is 8 but hasn't had a problem. they're also nice when we go camping so if we run up to the office for supplies it's always in range to ask for extras if needed.
